I like Windows Vista.

I got a new laptop a couple weeks ago, a Dell XPS M1330. Sweet machine (Windows Experience Index 4.0). It has Windows Vista on it. Many of the things that frustrated me in previous versions of Windows have gone away. For example:

  • The machine boots fast.
  • I can backup my hard drive to multiple DVDs without buying additional software.
  • It comes with a program that lets me edit video, slides and music and burn a DVD.
  • It makes Windows XP look “plain”.

Yes I have a problem finding some things, and yes I did switch the Control Panel to Classic view. But overall the UI is easier to use and I really enjoy the experience.

I contrast this to MS Office 2007 which after a couple of months is still driving me crazy trying to figure out where they hid some features. The old Office menus are, in this man’s opinion, a better way to organize things.

Update:

I kept having fairly serious problems with disk corruption on the machine, until I installed Windows 7. Now it’s solid as can be.

LMAO!! I KnEW there was a reason behind you being a Microsoft user. haha

Oh I TOTALLY agree with it beating all those you listed, just not my XP sp3. I’ll hang onto it like I did 98, until I knew I just had to upgrade, sometime around 00-01 I think that was.

By they way, is there a feature in this Blog site that I can tell what posts are new that I should reply to without having to browse the entire site? I imagine you being the moderator of it have that as an option, or you’d not found this post.

Mac’s are nice and we liberals love everybody, but my kid works for Microsoft, so I can’t go too far off the range. 😉

After I wrote that article last February, I started having lots of trouble with disk corruption. A month or so ago I reloaded the whole machine from scratch, and installed Vista Service Pack 1. Now it’s stable and I’m pleased. It’s a heck of a lot nicer than Windows Version 2.0 (and 3.1, NT, 95 and 98 and ME)!
