Florida voted for more severe hurricanes?

I really feel for the folks in Florida who have been pounded by 4 serious hurricanes (and those in Alabama where my folks are still cleaning up).

But if they, and the rest of the country, elect George W Bush for a second term, they will get more of the same, only worse.

When George W. Bush was elected president, the policy of the United States towards global warming changed. Global warming went from solid science to solid speculation at the whim of the administration and the US pulled out of the Kyoto protocol. The voters in Florida and Alabama and Georgia and South Carolina unknowingly voted for increasing damage from dangerous storms.

The latest study, published in the Journal of Climate can be downladed by anyone who wants to read the details and more a more accessible summary of recent studies on the relationship between hurricanes and global warning is available on the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration web site . The summary from the NOAA web site said:

Although we cannot say at present whether more or fewer hurricane will occur in the future with global warming, the hurricanes that do occur near the end of the 21st century are expected to be stronger — by roughly one-half category on the Saffir-Simpson scale — and have significantly more intense rainfall than under present day climate conditions.

Your point is well taken and perhaps I was out of line. I really only wanted to say that there is a future cost to be paid if Bush gets elected again. Let me see if I can edit what I said to fix it up.

First of all, I live in Florida and I wasn’t “asking for it.” That statement is a little harsh. I didn’t vote for Bush the first time, and I am not voting for him this election. So, please stop with the I was “asking for it.”
