I already talked about the Zhiwhis ZWS-777, aka HanRongDa HRD-777, aka Raddy RF750 Plus in Looks Cool: Zhiwhis ZWS-777. I said I wasn’t inclined to buy one. A few bits of new information piqued my interest. First, it appears intended to be a successor to the HRD-700 — a radio I passed up years ago because there was no digital display, opting for the HRD-701 instead (a treasured yellow radio with a great speaker).
The second bit is that the ZWS-777 is actually smaller than the HRD-700/701. The third is that the case is metal. And lastly, that grill in front of the speaker is a spinner, and apparently it’s also one of those HanRongDa “shuttles” that can be used to tune the radio.
Having personally processed scores of perfect Amazon radio returns, I have a soft spot for manufacturers whose products get returned for no fault of their own. When Amazon offered me a ZWS-777 in “used very good” condition for only $33.80, I snagged it. That’s less than the cost today of the original HRD-700/RF750.
The ZWS-777 is not a new model, first released around December of 2024.
I’m expecting a very good speaker experience. The radio is tricky to operate, but that’s taken care of through the app. It’s also a Bluetooth speaker and a music player. Does it record? The manual doesn’t list the feature, but the device supports the Radio-C/Radio-CT app and that might let it happen.
It should arrive October 7.
