Sort of.
I have a 20-foot wire diagonally running up to a tree that I called it my WUP antenna for (Wire UP tree). The Internet said no — not a proper acronym. So I changed it to WUT.
Now, I have just installed a new antenna; it runs under the floor joists of my back porch. It is a a true WUP antenna (Wire Under Porch). It replaces my WOW (Wire Out Window) antenna which has been taken down.
It turns out that the old WOW antenna was broken. Its earth ground wire had been cut probably when gardening activity occurred, and that whole BALUN thing was probably doing nothing. But, I digress.
The new WUP antenna is initially dedicated to the W2 repeater being accessed by my LiJiANi RD-239S. The repeater location was selected to be out of the weather (there’s no leakage from the covered porch above).
The antenna that plugs into the bottom of the W2 itself is about 40 feet long.
No amount of planning…
There’s one small issue: power. I don’t know how long the 2 18650 batteries are going to last. It’s probably a long time but I don’t know. A ladder is going to be required. So far the batteries are lasting for weeks, on standby most of the time.
