If you’re interested in starting to listen to shortwave radio, there are some notable deals on Amazon.com during their Prime Day promotion. And no, I don’t get any commission on products I mention here.
- Retekess V115 MW/FM/SW radio with MP3 play and record. It has digital frequency display and direct keyboard frequency entry. $16.09. I don’t own one of these radios because I have a Zhiwhis ZWS-603 that I believe is the same thing but with Bluetooth added — the only radio I know of that can record from Bluetooth. It has a very nice speaker. It’s not labeled for a Prime Day sale, but it is currently at a 20% discount, for a price of $19.82.
- Jazmm 213 MW/FM/SW/Weather/MP3/Bluetooth, I reviewed this one recently and found it a good radio with a fantastic speaker. $22.10 for the green one.
- Zhiwhis ZWS-2415. I’ve talked a good bit about this one. This is a fantastic weather radio, with MW/FM/SW and VHF. FM is outstanding too. Good sound, IPX4 weather resist, and 10000 mAh internal battery. This is my go-to weather radio. $34.22.
- XHDATA D-808. This radio shot up in price to over $100 of late, but it’s back down for Prime Day, now $86.40. It’s a solid radio with SSB, Air Band and FM RDS.
- XHDATA D-109. The price of this radio has been creeping up for a while. It’s actually quite good, with MP3 and Bluetooth. The only drawback is overloading on very strong broadcast signal areas. $36.79.
- LiJiANi Rd239. This is a fun radio that works. It has weather alerts, a bright flashlight, backlight keyboard, MW/FM/SW/Air band and VHF. It’s quite sensitive. $44.72.
- HanRongDa HRD-701. This is a very small radio with a big speaker. It supports MW/FM/SW and Weather with alerts. $27.99. Zhiwhis has the yellow version on sale for a dollar more.
- Sihuadon R-108. Solid performer that I found quite good on MW. It’s sort of the HDATA D-108, but without SSB. $47.92.
- Ongteed SM-616. This is the one item that caught my attention. I talked about the Sansui F50, a multimedia player with MW/FM/SW/MP3/Bluetooth. It was the smaller version with Chinese labeling. Now the BIG SCREEN version has appeared on Amazon at the giveaway price of $21.77. Ordered (limit 1 per customer). The next day, it had been removed from Prime Day and the price shot up to $32.99 (with 4 additional listings of the same product from the same seller, but at different prices up to $54.99).
- XHDATA D-608WB. Decent radio overall with emergency weather features. It’s powered by one 18650 battery (included). $31.67.
- EVCHE EC-2110BTS. This is just a convenient radio, with MP3 play and Bluetooth. It can be powered by AC, 2 D batteries and one 18650 cell. It has a nice speaker and enough solar to actually play the radio in direct sun without batteries. Shortwave coverage is limited. The one I have has a fixed 9 kHz MW step and only goes to 1620 kHz. That corresponds with the photos on the Amazon product page, but the description says it goes to 1700. $19.99
- Choyong LC-90. A bit pricey for me, but Prime Day knocks off $50, taking it down to $199.99. It is a hybrid shortwave radio, internet radio. Upgradeable firmware is a attractive feature
